Lengthen time viewfinder information stays illuminated for a D300S

When I take macro shots with my Tamron 90mm lens and a D300S, I use manual focus. I also use the focus confirmation dot seen in the viewfinder as confirmation. The viewfinder display, however, does not stay on long enough for me to see that dot. Is there a way to increase the time that viewfinder information is illuminated?
