Hi Matt,
Why didn't you write anything about the autofocus? Everybody knows that is is the weakness of the X series.
What is your experience on this matter? How fast and accurate is the AF?
Don't get me wrong, I honestly want to know, cause I'm considering this camera. Just worried about the autofocus. And no I don't want a DSLR and neither want you to comparing it with a DSLR.
Just to give you an example of my expectation of how the AF of the should perform: I own a Panasonic GF1 and Fuji X100. In low light, the AF of the X100 is unreliable. But the GF1 is fast enough for me and most important accurate.
So for me I think the AF performance of the X-E1 should be at least on par with the old Panasonic GF1. And should be more reliable (speed/accuracy) in low light comparing to the X100. Whats is your opinion on this?
I've had the X-E1 / 35 f/1.4 over the weekend and the AF is interesting to say the least.
Coming from a GF-1 and E-M5, I feel the X-E1 falls between the two but closer to the GF1.
In moderately lit conditions, say 1 to 2 lights illuminating a room, the X-E1 is a tad faster than a GF-1 with the 20mm.
When it dims even lower, the X-E1 is slow. Even the lowly 20mm and GF-1 can lock focus better.
As far as accuracy is concerned, focus has been spot on and more accurate than the E-M5 thus far on AF-S.
