Your experience and report, as real as they are, just don't seem plausible at all.

Were these your results both with DMF and Manual focusing modes? It's hard to believe that the much praised peaking feature as implemented on RX100, and NEX, and A99 would be crippled on RX1. Peaking is an alternative to magnification. Magnification causes me to lose the framing altogether when attempting to focus on anything not in the center.
