Hey guys!
I am looking to get a 35 mm equiv. fixed lens combo, and I am considering the following:
Fuji XE1 / upcoming 23 f1.4
Olympus om-d em5 / Voigtlander 17.5 f0.95
Sony rx1 (35 f2)
In my considerations I was wondering, with which of the three is it easiest to achieve the narrowest DOF? And how do I calculate this for the future, any good links?
Thanks in advance!
Klaus
Well, I'm none too sure about the X-E1--but I've dicked around on my smartphone's DOF calculator by comparing the DOF on the E-M5 with a 17.5mm focal length on f/4 and compared it with FF with 35mm on f/8.
Assuming the focus point is 1 metre away, they would yield similar DOF distance. So my "very amateurish shortcut" to comparing my exposure settings on mFT with FF would be: "if I want DOF of X using focal length A and aperture setting B on FF, on mFT with focal length A/2, then the setting would be aperture setting B/2."
Yeah, not too scientific or well-worded...but it sorta works for me.
That said, it would mean all of those cameras you mentioned would yield similar results at their widest aperture, assuming the same distance.
