HDR/DRO understanding

Hey all

So, I’ve read a bit on HDR and DRO; and I believe I’ve got a good understanding. Bear with me, I’m just an amateur and shoot majority in JPG due to lack of post-processing time. I just really want to confirm that I do have it right. To summarise the best options...

  1. If it’s low light, turn HDR or DRO off.
  2. If it’s a bright day, but you are taking a picture of a moving subject, use DRO
  3. If it’s a bright day and the subject is still, use HDR
  4. If it’s a bright day, the subject is still and this is a picture I REALLY like, switch to RAW, use bracketing and post process it (HDR)

Is that basically correct?

Can the HDR option be used hand held? I know the NEX takes the 3 pics quickly, but is that quick enough to not to get some ghosting?

Also, being new to HDR/DRO and not having played around too much with it, is the AUTO option good on average? Obviously, again, if it’s a pic I really like, I will try different options to get the best results.

Thanks
