A99 and Sony 18-135mm Lens

Coming from the NEX 5N and NEX7, I am very new to the A99.

On the NEX cameras, in order to see the red effect of DMF, you had to hold the shutter half way down while turning the focus ring.

On the A99, I get the same effect without having to hold the shutter half way. I just point the camera at the subject, turn the focus ring for maximum sharp focus (either in AF or MF mode) then press the shutter button.

Is this what other users are finding ?
