First DSLR - Suggestions

Is Nikon D7000 competitor to Canon 60D? If so, it makes sense to get D7000 with only one lens of 18-105mm. Reason being, Canon 60D usually comes with Kit lens of 18-55 or other zoom. I would rather prefer to carry only one at a time

Also, please let me know the importance of Articulated LCD which is on offer with D5100, T3i or T4i. Without this will it be difficult to shoot?

I've never used a camera with Articulated LCD, so not sure about its advantages.

Also please comment on the Nikon's 18-105mm lens. Does it auto stabilizes quickly while taking pictures?
