I leave macro turned on all the time in mine, it may slightly slow focus, but on the other hand it focusses perfectly and you can work through any range without having to make any changes.
There are complaints in the canon forum that the S110 does not have such functions sticky.

I've just tried it: when in macro mode, the EX2F cannot focus on distant objects. Only in SMART mode it can focus from 1cm to infinity.
