E-PL5 - mildly unimpressed other than IQ (very good)

No blog posts for this one - still trying to work out whether how I feel about the camera is enough to make me return it to the shop!

Flags at Guidhall

I bought an E-PL5 on a spur of the moment thing. I had sold my E-P3 a couple of weeks back, I missed it and I found a decent price body only on the E-PL5 and thought "what the hell". First impressions (bearing in mind I have a E-M5) were poor. The screen is terrible in comparison. A fixed screen would have been better than the cludgy compromise of using a 16:9 screen for a 4/3s camera. Size and weight were good but nothing to write home about - you aren't going to put it in your back pocket!

Aston Martin

The controls baffled me until I adjusted the dial to adjust aperture or shutter speed with the first click (depending on mode). I do not get why you would want to adjust exposure quickly but aperture slowly, but it's easily fixable so who cares. Really missed the level gauge (as you'll be able to tell from two of my shots...). Didn't really enjoy shooting with the camera because making adjustments required too much thought.

Flash air card seems a bit pointless to me but I shoot RAW - I noticed it most for being chronically slow to write. I'll try it with a Class 10 card tomorrow.

Bank of England

Just processed the few RAWs I took in todays miserable weather though and despite the weather, they look very good (OK, not sure I will frame them but for a couple of random snaps in the rain they are OK). Will persevere for a day or two.
