Third party batteries never work correctly. Yes, the original battery is a rip-off; but at least the camera will operate as intended.
So much misinformation on this forum.
3rd party batteries for the GH2 and (I assume) the G5 won't show the battery level on the LCD, and won't permit the camera to go into sleep mode. They power the camera just fine, and all shooting functions work normally. So while it's true they don't work "correctly," they're not a bad alternative as a backup. Just remember to turn the camera off rather than waiting for it to go into sleep mode.
I have one I got from Amazon. I picked one that had a 4 star rating, and it's been fine, other than the above limitations. I use the OEM battery primarily, and the 3rd party one as a backup for when the OEM one runs out of juice.

OM-D for sale; see classifieds forum.
I agree with Bob Meyer, I did exactly the same. Purchased from Amazon, and so far works well, shows battery level on my G5, don't know about the no sleep mode as I always turn that off.
Battery name is "EXpro", cost approx £10.00p. Post Free. Will probably get another before Christmas.
