5R App Question - Might be a dumb one...

Hello All,

I just picked up my new 5R today and already installed the apps which are fun. My question is do I have to be connected via WiFi in order for them to work or after they are installed will they connect to the phone via blue tooth? if they do have to be connected via WiFi if I turn my phone into a hot spot will that work?
