Went from a D7000 to the NEX-6 without fully appreciating the longevity of the battery on an SLR. I'm on a trip now in Cambodia and I didn't last half a day before killing the battery (took about ~350 shots, so right on with reported life).

It really is a change.  As long as you have regular access to power, just carry an extra battery or two.  If you don't have access to power, carry an SLR.  My D7000 lasts maybe 1500 shots +/-, but my mirrorless cameras are all around 250-500 shots (which is still plenty, equivalent to 10 to 20 rolls of film).

Does anyone have suggestions for stretching the battery life (aside from the obvious)? I'm really liking the camera aside from this MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR compromise. It's enough to make me want to return the camera.

Only you can decide if you can live with the compromise.  It is what it is.  Unfortunately all these mirrorless cameras use tiny little batteries.  I don't see why they can't go up 50% or so on battery size to get a few hundred extra shots.
