Sony NEX 6 weird problem

OK.  One last check, before returning it: have you tried a different memory card (unlikely to be the cause, anyway) or a different battery (particularly if the battery you are using whilst you've had this happen is NOT the original one that came with the camera)?  If neither of these is the cause, then it definitely needs to be returned as faulty, I'd say.
