"next generation VR" on 70-200/4 for 16-35/2.8?

A few months ago Nikon Rumors reported the patent of Nikon 16-35 f/2.8 VR, a new design that's supposedly to replace the 17-35/2.8.

Given the existing 14-24/2.8 and 16-35/4 VR, back then it didn't seem too convincing the lens would eventually be released.

The "next gen VR" announced on the new 70-200/4 might well be the VR this new 16-35/2.8 would employ. Less distortion at the wide end and better VR than the 16-35 might well be the selling point, besides being a stop faster; and at a very high price point.

Hopefully we would see it soon.
