video card for ~100€ (RADEON or Nvidia)??
Nov 12, 2012

Hi all
I currently have this (new) pc:

-intel quad core i5 3450 3.1 GHz socket 1155 Ivy Bridge
-mobo AsRock H77 PRO4/MVP
-psu XFX Pro 550W
-16gb ram Corsair Vengeance LP
-HD WesternDigital Caviar Blue 500gb
-Sapphire HD 6450 1GB DDR3
-windows 7 home premium 64 bit

Monitor: Dell U2412M 24' 16:10 1920x1200px
+ Datacolor Spyder4Pro

as you can see I have a very cheap video card, Sapphire Radeon HD6450 http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=917&pid=316&psn=&lid=1# I bought this card because I haven't much money, but now I would buy a better video card, for less 100€ (130$) if possible.

My dilemma: how important is the graphic card for photo editing? (Photoshop CS6). Do I need a better video card? I am thinking about buying a Nikon D600, with 24mpixels files. With 24 mpixel maybe I need a better card (now I have a 10mpixel reflex) because I think HD6450 will have poor performance with great file. ps I use my pc only for photo editing 2D and internet (no game).

And, in your opinion, is better a RADEON HD or a NVIDEA video card? A friend told me CUDA (from Nvidia) is important for photo retouching but now I read Photoshop CS6 does not use CUDA http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html#mercury However I read CUDA is important for certain photoshop filters, for example NikSoftware filters.

I am thinking about buying:

ASUS GeForce GTX 550Ti http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTX550_Ti_DCDI1GD5/

or

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7770 http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1159&pid=1452&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

What do you think about these cards? Do you have anything to recommend? Better ATI RADEON or Nvidia???

Or can I use my HD6450 also with a 24mpixel reflex?

Thanks in advance for your replies!!!
