pack-compatible vest (Cotton carrier) or belt system to keep camera within reach, with most-used lens mounted.  Essential accessories and lenses in a small padded shoulderbag at the top of your pack. Or, attach padded lens pouches to outside of pack on D rings, Molle webbing, etc. I would suggest getting one of those steel wire mesh overbags that lock. Depending on where you go, obvious photo gear may get stolen.
