To understand what the difference is between Nikon, Canon and Sony. You have to compare them. Like I did. I use the Samsung PS64D8000 Plasma for viewing. In 2011 this was the best screen in most realistic colours in the world. I connect everything now with the Diamond HDMI from Audioqust. This is the best pure silver HDMI you can buy. What does Sony do what Nikon and Canon both can't? The photo and film of the A99 is more powerfull. It is the most dynamic full frame dslr. You can see easily that the picture is more 3d compared to Nikon and Canon. I call Nikon and Canon too thin in colours and in 3D even more. This ie something everybody can judge and see very eassily. I do consulting in sound and vision in high level stuff. I will make soon presentations and promotional videos of sound and vision equipment with the A99. I use now the 2470CZ and 70-400 Sony with the xlr input and Rode Pro videomic. But the A99 can do a lot more. To have so much control before the picture is taken, you would never want to go back to Canon or Nikon ( I used Nikon for over 6 years. When I got to the other side ( Sony) the quality, fun and control went to a superior level compared to Nikon in every aspect. The fun in making photos and video is also a big difference. There is a lot work for Nikon and Canon to do to make me smile as Sony does to me these days!

I think that you'd missed my point. I'm not 100% sure which post of my mine that you'd replied to. But, I'm a professional photographer, shooting both fashion and commercial photography. I understand the dynamic range concept and the technical differences in these cameras. That's part of the reason why I'd went with Sony f.f. Plus, I've been shooting with them going back to the Minolta days. BUT, I've also shot with other cameras outside of Sony and for the majority, you can pretty much get the same results. I prefer Sony for several different reasons. That said, those reasons for me as well as what you've expressed are subtle and not enough for the average professional that shoot with both Nikon and Canon are enough to justify moving over to Sony. Or from Canon to Nikon etc. Although from what I've seen, the video blows away anything that I've seen coming from Nikon and Canon. But the same can be said about Nikon when it comes to the iso noise at high iso in the D800. Again, to the average viewer, they're not going to know the tech. difference. What they will see if the images are good is a good images photographed by a good photographer. Along with the Sony images, I like Sony's tech. innovations and aesthetics. The bodydesign, it just works. LCD hands down imo, beats the others. That flexibility, while I can shoot without it, comes in very handy for difficult shooting situations. Evf, innovative imo. I also like the fact that I can adjust the menu inside the viewfinder. That's nice if you're in a very bright area where the sun might be an issue. There's so much more that I can list that I do like, but you (hopefully) see my points.
