A standard zoom for D800?

Hi all,

I'm a nikon user and thinking of buying the D800. I usually shoot interior/exterior architecture and landscapes but would like to buy a general FX zoom to complement a wide angle lens. Trouble is I've read the lens reviews for the 24-120 and 24-85 lenses and both of them seem a bit poor in optical and build quality, especially as they still cost quite a bit. I also wouldn't want to lug around the massive 24-70 f2.8 either.

So are there any alternatives you would suggest?
