Photonius above has got the answer right.
This will be more apparent on a wide angle lens when stopped down to a very small aperture because of the physically small opening that the light has to get through, but all lenses do it to a certain extent.
To avoid this try not to stop down smaller than f11, with any lens on a crop camera sharpness will reduce and diffraction will increase with an aperture below f11.
