Lovely setting... what are those random box-like buildings like the one along the ridgeline?

Gidday Joe,

Thanks for looking and your kind comment.

We have plenty of steel in this country, and almost all farm buildings and storage sheds, etc, are steel framed and clad with galvanised iron (actually clad with sheet steel coated with zincalume, a zinc/aluminium anti-rust coating; or a bonded surface coating called "colorbond"). We tend to call it "gal", as we tend to shorten all names to an irreducible minimum here

This material is relatively cheap to make and transport to remote localities, of which we have plenty. In such a dry country, these sheds will last almost indefinitely when erected in the inland areas. Many corrugated iron clad sheds and houses are still intact after 100 or more years. The modern coatings such as zincalume and colorbond make such steel sheet very resistant to all but marine and coastal environments. Even in the latter, steel garage doors can last up to 20 years when directly exposed to extreme coastal environments.
