Not sure anyone will have an answer for me, but I'll pose the question.

After reading the several threads on RAWvs JPEG, I'm motivated to give RAW a try. From what I read and hear, Lightroom is probably the best program and easy enough once you get used to it. What I'm looking to try is the most simple program to use that is effective. It certainly doesn't have to be the best, just enough to let me know if I'm interested enough to try the best.

That's the right attitude to have.  Although I am not a Lightroom user (I used to), I believe Lightroom is fairly straightforward to users, and it remains relatively affordable.

As somebody else mentioned on the RAW/JPG thread, maybe you should give it a try first with the free of charge software: rawthetherapee.  It will provide you a good introduction to raw processing, and more importantly, it will provide a better understanding of what those programs are capable of.

Your assessment at shooting raw, and process raw files might very well change the way your workflow will be carried out.

I'm actually pretty happy with Sony JPEGs straight out of my Sony cameras. I have to give most long zoom shots a touch of AUTO CONTRAST in Picasa, but that's about it.

An advice:  try RAW, and then compare your results with ooc JPEG files.  You might have a pleasant surprise.

Good luck,

Thanks for any suggestions.

Measurebators are out of my world, photography is not about babbling behind a computer... but rather being out of your home, shoot and share photographs with other people. Shoot and Share...Thanks.
