Couldn't a new K5 be purchased recently for a little over 850$ ? The 5100 doesn't have nearly the features a K5 has, so a new one should go for about half the price me thinks. Not sure about a refurbished one. Nikon will either stop that line or upgrade to D5200 soon I think. That would be the time to buy it if wanted.
Yes. A lot of things can be purchased for $850 including a K-30, K-5 etc...
But that is $475 more than the D5100
Yes, the K-5 has some superior features such as weather sealing, viewfinder, frames per second but the d5100 has an articulated LCD and is lighter.
DPReview Pentax K5 and Nikon D5100 comparison
Nikon has announced the release of the D5200 which is one of the reasons the D5100 is priced so low.
Not trying to convince anyone about buying a Nikon just thought that $379 is an astonishingly low price for a pretty OK camera.
