I really liked the metering system layout in the F3 body. Yes there was only one pattern available but the choice of focusing screen couldn't affect metering because the metering module was not above the screen, but below the main mirror (the same place now occupied by the AF module).

In principle the intensity information for spot metering could be derived from the data collected at the AF system sensors. But that could only deliver spot metering so it wouldn't be a total solution.

So where is the harm in them offering an alternative screen for the skilled user...? Would it harm the ones that don't want to buy the extra screen in anyway?
