Caprock State Park in north Texas
When shooting with a wide-angle or normal lens for landscapes it is very common to place something in the forground, middleground and background to give the viewer a chance to judge the relative object sizes and the depth of the scene. Distant objects tend to receed. I use my 70-280mm zoom with a X1.4 extended quite frequently to shoot landsacpes because it tends to squeesh everything together onto one plane giving everything the same size. Of course you loose the pano look like you have in your photo (unless you stitch a few shots together). Here are a few example of my long lens landscapes:
Tule Canyon in north Texas
Sand dunes in southern Colorado
Here is a stitched pano from several long lens shots and as you can see the canyon rocks look small in it especially since I chose to inclue so much sky.
Caprick State Park in northern Texas
These are just some randoms thoughts I had when I saw your post.
