I have a D700 and most recently acquired a D800 to replace a D300. My main lenses include the Nikon 24-70mm which is a great lens.

I was considering my options for another general use FX lens when i came across a used Tamron 24-70mm non BIM in a second hand shop for a budget busting price of £80.

Having previously tried a Tamron 17-50mm on another camera a few years ago and been very disappointed i was slightly dubious about the Tamron 28-75mm but decided to take the gamble mostly due to the price.

Suffice to say this lens has far exceeded my expectations and is comparable in image terms when placed next to images produced by the Nikon 24-70mm.

It did need an across the board -5 fine tune on my D800 but was spot on with my D700.

It certainly doesnt focus as quick as the Nikon but its not so slow as to cause major problems unless you are looking to photograph fast moving action.

I agree also that its nowhere near as well made as the Nikon but again unless you are into lens bashing as a hobby it should hold up to most day to day usage.

If you are looking a good image quality lens to place on your FX camera and you dont want to spend mega money then from my experience I can say the Tamron 28-75mm is a very good choice.

I have included a couple of photos bith of which were taken at F4 on the D800

1/500 F4 iso 100 75mm
