Are you using Aperture or Manual mode?
Are you paying attention to viewfinder indicators?
When half pressing shutter button is the shutter speed number still white in color, showing exposure OK?
In stils it is less of a problem, you can use the compensation (if your subject did not move...) after you have seen the first picture, but in movies it makes it impossible to change the aperture during a movie without affecting the exposure.
Any idea why this is and how I can solve/ circumvent this problem?

I do not shoot video so can not help much there. Perhaps try using Auto ISO up to 3200 to help in low light situations.
