Thanks for the really great insight guys. My suspicions about IQ seem to be reaffirmed here and with other reviews I've read online. Looks like if I go the Tamron route, I should buy new due to the QC and potential bad copy concerns.

It seems like a great first lens for me. Surprised it's not talked about more considering the price point and constant f2.8!
