Good alternative to Apple-produced books?

I have a Mac and use Aperture. I have made a number of photo books from trips my family has taken, using the Aperture software and uploading the photos directly to Apple. While the books are OK, I am not entirely happy - the photos lose some of their luster - maybe because of the matte finish to the pages - and there are some production issues.
Can anyone suggest an online service that a higher quality book? I don't mind paying a bit more if that would result in better quality.
