Carrying FDA-EV1S EVF in a bag: Sony instructions

According to Sony transporting FDA-EV1S EVF is a complex matter. From the operating instructions:

"When carrying this unit, remove it from the camera first. Attach the connector protect cap to this unit. Then put it in the supplied carrying pouch."

Apart from the procedure which might be seen as a bit annoying, in real life has anybody been carrying the EVF attached to the camera without adverse effects (I am considering that perhaps all that inserting/removing the unit might stress the connector or the accessories port)?
