Confession of a Lazy JPG Snap Shooter

My name is Gil and I have been shooting JPG since early 2000 I think and I joined DPR in 2003. DPR was showing that I already had 16,000+ posts and in that number, all relevant pics posted were all in JPG. I had fun doing JPGs all these years until about two years ago when an old hobby showed up again and limited my JPG taking funs and forum participation. Back then, not too many seems to have any issue with my posted JPG pics. Nobody called me lazy back then. When I do birding session then, easy to get 2,000 shots in two hours when there are many BIF subjects and I am always set at burst shots. In BIFs, I do it snap like; thus, I actually do snap shots.

Now, it's kind of funny when you read it here (also seen similar thoughts in other forums as well) that JPG shooter are supposedly 2nd class photographers. What is more discouraging is when a JPG shooter like me is branded as LAZY. Even if I do JPG, I still do some basic PP but I would rather enjoy the fun adjustments and experimentation to improve my exposure in the field rather than in front of the monitor. Note that it is improvement rather than perfection.

Yes, I am a lazy JPG snap shooter and I am proud of it, ha!ha!ha!ha!

Sorry, I have some recent shots but unprocessed; thus, old images from A900 may do for now just to illustrate some points that matters to me and my own satisfactgion.

Case 1:

No PP, just crop only from my baseline settings. Yes, if I have it in RAW, I could pull out more details but what attracts me to BIF is not on shadow details but the overall action itself. This is basic flap down wing flight.

Same as above but with some PP. I don't need to pull out some more details and shadows here since I am just interested in the flight pattern. No question that a RAW file would give more impact but overall it will be the same flight shot and I have hundred of similar shots.

Case 2

Say's Phoebe in flight and small bird that is fun to catch in flight. Yes, RAW would no doubt give it more meat but I am ok with the JPG results above as I have low satisfaction level. I tried printing up to 20"x30'' on my JPG shots and it was ok with my wife :=).

Oops, already 6 PM and time to go home. Here's my A900 test shots link below - some with good shots, some ok and some so-so but all done with JPGs. Would it improve if I have used RAW? Definitely but it doesn't mean I am not happy with the JPG output. Sorry time to go (was not able to review typos).
