I'm not equipped to comment on the technicalities of various cameras, I just returned from a week of sight-seeing the the beautiful state of Hawaii. While there, I visited Pearl Harbor and its memorials. The park service does not allow bags, camera, purses or otherwise, into the park. It was very nice to take my ZS15 in my pocket into the park as opposed to carrying a larger DSLR around my neck. At the time I left the park some of my fellow travelers with their DSLR's and longer lenses looked quite tired.  The same was true the next day when up at the top of Haleakalā National Park to look at Haleakala Crater. This is over 10,000 feet above sea level and the last 500 feet or so is a steep climb. Me, I'm glad I could keep the camera in a plastic bag in my pocket.
