A99 HDMI capture to Blackmagic Intensity Extreme issue (1080p)

Hi all-
I have an issue with getting the A99 to output progressive, medium bandwidth video (1080p24 or 1080p30) out the HDMI port - can anyone help?
I got my A99 in on Tuesday, and I love it for its better high ISO, the viewfinder (no delay with it activating for _me_), the focus peaking, the ability to check focus, etc. etc.
However, one of the key reasons I got it was to also use it as a high-quality 1080p24 or 1080p30 HDMI video source for some real-time image processing and film making.
The setup I'm trying to get working is :
A99_HDMI -> 1080p24 -> Blackmagic_Intensity_Extreme_HDMI_Capture_Device -> Thunderbolt -> MacBook Pro
The Intensity Extreme cannot take 1080p/60. It only has the bandwidth to handle 1080i60, 1080p24, or 1080p30. (Or the odd-ball "tiny-bit-slower" NTSC legacy frame rates.)
The problem is that I can only get the A99 and the Intensity Extreme to talk to each other at 1080i59.98 (interlaced). When I set the A99's HDMI output to 1080p or "auto", and the Intensity Extreme is set to accept 24p or 30p, nothing is captured.
Does anyone else have experience with the A99 and HDMI capture? I hear that people are using the A99 with the Atmos Ninja - are there any known issues and work-arounds?
Thanks,
Tom
