Seems like a hugely expensive solution to a problem that most videographers wouldn't recognise. As I understand it, manual focus is the normal procedure for high level videos and isn't affected at all by aperture.

well, you dont HAVE to. but for someone thats got an older minolta 1.7 when you can get another one for under $100, it may not be a bad trade off.
if i could shoot AF at 2.8 then I would love to. But im not willing to risk my 16-50 either.
