I want to have my images automatically rotated and not have the vertical shots on their side when I download them to my computer. How can I accomplish this?
I use Windows 7, Paint Shop Pro X3 and shoot with a Canon T1i.

This problem occurs because Windows 7 Explorer does not honor the Orientation flag written to the EXIF metadata by your camera. The solution is to install a codec that will read the EXIF metadata instructions and automatically rotate your images.
Absolutely do not use Windows to rotate your photos since it deletes the Orientation flag
Canon has a free codec but as far as I'm aware it only works on 32-bit operating systems: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/windows_vista/cameras/eos_slr_camera_systems/canon_raw_codec_software
Microsoft also has a codec pack that will work: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829
