Disadvantages to in-body IS

I've been enjoying primes and IS on the Olympus side for a long time. Be nice to have the same with the FF sensor.
I picked up the 100mm IS macro a couple of months ago and it's a great lens. To have IS in a reasonably fast prime in an all purpose focal length is going to be very very nice!

Now if I could only get my grand kids to not move around so much to match the IS, I'll be all set!

...I'm none too pleased to pay a premium for IS in the lens when all my lenses could be given IS in one shot with sensor IS. The success of the sensor IS in the 4/3 DSLRs and mFT bodies, along with tests done by sites on the effectiveness of lens IS vs sensor IS, shows that either Canon (and Nikon) simply refuses to implement sensor IS, or that there is an issue with implementing sensor IS with a FF sensor (too big and/or heavy).

However, take a read:

The centering quality of the tested sample was good albeit not perfect (which is typical for lenses with image stabilizer).

Very interesting, no?

Most reviews indicate that in body IS is less effective than lens IS at longer focal lengths. I don't think I'd want to see Canon go to in body IS instead of offering a 70-200mm IS or 400mm IS lens for instance. At 35mm it would probably be fine though.

I recently purchased an Olympus E-PL5 with in body IS. It's a fantastic camera, but the IS is unreliable and often results in blurring at shorter focal lengths and what should be safe shutter speeds to not need IS. I've had to turn it off unless I know that I really need it, which is a pain and I unfortunate to have to worry about. There are some discussions on this issue in the m43 forum. The shutter vibration on many of these cameras causes this.

So, all is not rosy with in body IS. I wish it were, but I sure enjoy worry free Canon lens IS after this experience.
