There is no way you can use the EVF for 'focusing'. Once the diopter corrector is adjusted the EVF gives a good view to compose the shot and to check any program. Thats all. If the small green box indicates focus and it was locked properly on a good contrasty edge it's focused. Well, most of the time. I wear trifocals and although wish for a much better EVF it does work as intended.
If time permits the LCD with magnified focus screen on manual setting could be useful but personally I can't get excited about that feature.
