I never understood the attraction for the 24-105L, and neither can I for this new lens. The 70-200mm f/4Ls offer dramatic improvements in cost and weight for the same optical quality as the f/2.8, but the f/4 standard zooms do not have nearly the same advantages over their f/2.8 sibling, while being significantly poorer optically.
