Is it a good idea to get a T3?

Never owned a DSLR before. The T3 is atleast somewhat recent and affordable. I want something that takes reasonably good pictures across the board. I know 12.2 megapixel is kinda low (does that even matter?) It got really good reviews everywhere, maybe it's worth a try. I don't know. Need advice.
