In reply to Chris MacClellan, Nov 6, 2012

I tested and tried both the Canon SX50 and FZ200. In my opinion both were excellent cameras and took excellent photos. I preferred the Canon colors (but have been a Canon user for many years). To me it came down to the following deciding points:

Canon pluses:

Longer zoom range (double FZ200) - but I didn't feel that I needed it

Preferred the Canon colors

I felt (my opinion only) that the Canon produced less noise at higher ISOs

FZ200 pluses:

F2.8 throughout total zoom range (useful to me in lower light situations)

Noise was acceptable

Movie mode better (but not important to me)

I ended up buying the FZ200 and really like it but I don't think you can go wrong with either. The F2.8 throughout the zoom was my deciding factor.
