Thanks for your reply Glo. I would think the 70-200 would focus even better in low light than the 24-120. I will have to try again.

That is a little odd Marsha. I have the 70-200 and have not noticed an issue at all and I've shot in the dark a lot with it in all kinds of venues, indoor and out. Modeling lights should clearly give you enough help to pinpoint focus. Sorry, not sure what to tell you.
