Honestly, my D800 is superb, better in every way (besides FPS) than my excellent D700.
Unless you get a body with the left-AF issue - and there should be no more appearing, if you believe Nikon - the D800 will probably be the best camera you've ever used, to date. It's a superset of the D700, it has all the capabilities and more. Don't hesitate, if you can afford it!
