From your description it sounds like you might have a faulty adapter plug. If you lose contact in the plug, the LED will go out on the charger, making you think the battery is charged. That's why I use a third party charger, it lights green when my battery is charged, so there is no mistaking a full charge condition.

A bad contact may have also made you think your Remington shaver died also.

Change out that adapter plug and give it another shot.
