Defaults are camera model number specific as Richard mentioned. If you change them they will only be changed for the camera model number that shot the image you have active when you set new defaults. You can also select to make the defaults ASA and/or model serial number specific for that camera. I have mine set to be ASA specific and have a different default for each ASA that the camera can set - I have different noise settings as a function of ASA. This way my noise settings are automatically applied to the image when it opens based on the ASA used to take the image. For my camera this required 40 different defaults.
