WG-1 or WG-2

have not been able to find either one of these units in a store within reasonable proximity of my home.  but in looking at pictures of it online, it would appear that the flash is more a light right and that it would accommodate low light or less than good lighting conditions. or is what looks like a light ring instead of a flash?  am I correct on this assumption? also what kind of lights are those aruond the lens?  seems that no matter what camera I use that I get bogged down with yellowish or dark pictures on certain days and unfortunately do not have another place to shoot.
