one long time minolta user told me to use Armor All to clean that white stuff from my lens, but I never tried.

I have done this with a beercan and a big beercan and it worked great.  I used an old toothbrush to intiially clean the grip.  Then I put some Armor all (or similar product) on a cloth and wiped the grip with it.  Then I used the toothbrush to work it in good and get the rest of the white stuff off. Finally, I took a clean cloth and wiped all the residue off (after it had a chance to soak in).  The grip looked pretty much like new afterwards and has suffered no ill effects.
