Yes, any time you switch to manual focus mode it starts at a setting equal to where you are focused currently - I also use this when I have the focus locked with the AEL button on focus lock.
I'm astonished by the depth of real features in the Sigma cameras. My DP2M is about the most enjoyable camera I've ever had.
