The bottom line first: I'll stop posting images here. (That fact means little to the forum - I post images sparsely anyway and what I do is most often mediocre.)

Why?

I'm used to be able to post direct links making the embedded images look the way I intend them to look. That is sharpened to my taste (or ability, lol). When the purpose of posting the images have been fulfilled I have been able to remove them. I have sometimes done that, sometimes I have let the images stay up at my server.

That is now in the past. Now, "linking" to an image somewhere at the Net the image is added to some internal DPR repository. During the process the images are re-sized, and not only re-sized but re-sized with lower jpg-quality using some badly written algorithm resulting in images significantly more blurry than the originals.

On top of it all you can no longer pull your images. That may be good or bad but as long as I'm the owner of an image I like to be the one deciding where and when it is available. There was no information to us users about this change and I had to mail twice to get a couple of my images removed.

What do you think about the new DPR way of showing images?

regards,

Jonas

I think like you in pretty much every way and used to do exactly what you did. Now it's a mess.

As I guess you are aware, you can still see the image as they were intended to be seen if you click "view original size". But if you don't, well ...

Of course. At first I noticed how many images were, well, bad. Then I started to compare using the "view original size" link and that confirmed my suspicions.

BTW: Are you sure the images aren't removed from the forum even if you pull the original from your server? I know from experience that there may well be intermediate caching to speed up display and it may take a while before that cache is cleared. You may well be right though. Just want to verify it.

I pulled the images I mentioned, waited a day, mailed DPR, waited another day and the images were still there, mailed again and then after another day they were gone. That doesn't prove anything so I can't say for sure. I also don't know how it all works when inserting an image from your DPR gallery.

Let's test it out.

Here is an image linked to from my web space provider:

"Waiting, writing" ©Jonas B, 2006, a stitch taken at the Main station, Cologne, Germany

And below is an image from my gallery:

From a lens test, from my gallery

Finally I here have an image inserted using the "insert image from your computer" option:

"Uploaded from my computer"

I'll try to remove these images in a few minutes and check back later...

regards,

Jonas

Thanks for taking the trouble to do the test Jonas!
