Best software for chromatic aberration

Dear Savants,
I'm using a D800 and, for trips, Nikkor 28-300. The chromatic aberration is quite a problem. I should carry lots of single focal length lenses, but I can't--too heavy at my age. I'm using Photoshop cs6 and have tried both the CA adjustment under "Lens Correction" and also in the CA adjustment in RAW, and I find they make little difference. With HDR images the problem is multiplied, even if I adjust each raw file to CA-adjusted TIFF before combining them into HDR. I wonder if anyone knows if there is a better software program for CA than Photoshop? Is Nikon's own better for this? I've also explored the web and seen the Photoshop instructions on getting rid of CA, but that's not really satisfactory for tree branches, etc. I'm tired of fixing each image by hand!
Hopefully,
Mack
