XF1 Deal Breaker (for me)

I noted that a local Best Buy received the black XF1 in stock, so I made a trip to take a look today. The camera looks and feels very nice, better than most others in the $500 category. I have an X100 in the collection, and the fit and finish are comparable. The lens extension/lock mechanism is very usable, no issues there. Now for my concern.
I tried some simple panning motions and the screen could not keep up with even a moderate panning rate. When side-by-side compared with the S100 and RX100, the screen turns to a blur until you stop, then snaps to an in-focus image. The autofocus is very quick once you have stopped motion, but I could see where there would be a real difference with action and with motion video recording.
Is this a shared observation, or was the camera in a non-standard mode?
