Canon 100-400 or 300 f/4 IS???

Well I  borrowed the 300 f/4 from a friend of mine and took it out for a day if shooting. It made up my mind right away to go with the 100-400. Yes, the images are extremely sharp BUT I missed a couple amazing shoots of elk yesterday because I was right on top of them and the 300 pretty much just got a small close up head shot. I had another camera in my pack with a rented 100-400. Took it out and got the shot at 120mm. Sealed the deal for me. The image on the 100-400 are very sharp. The 300 I do say may be a tad sharper a little bit but the ability to change the focal length out weighs it.
